In Georgetown, Guyana, an all-party delegation headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor received a warm welcome from the Indian community. Upon their arrival, Tharoor extended early congratulations to the citizens of Guyana for their upcoming Independence Day celebrations and outlined the delegation's objectives.

Tribute to 9/11 Victims

While addressing the diaspora, Tharoor shared that the delegation had made a stop in New York City to pay respects at the 9/11 Memorial. He emphasized that this visit symbolized India's solidarity with the victims of terrorism, stating, "This is a sentiment that resonates with many of us globally."

Meetings with Guyanese Leaders

Tharoor mentioned that the delegation is scheduled to meet with key figures in Guyana, including the Prime Minister, Vice President, and other ministers, as well as some Members of Parliament.

Tharoor's Strong Stance on Terrorism

In his remarks, Tharoor conveyed a clear message: "We must unite against terrorism in all its forms. It is crucial to bring those responsible for these heinous acts to justice and to confront those who support them." He noted that India has faced terrorism for over forty years and has reached a point of unwavering resolve against it.

"We will not allow anyone to cross our borders and harm our citizens without facing consequences. The Indian government is committed to ensuring that there is a price to pay for such actions, marking a new era in our fight against terrorism," he added.

Call for Diaspora Support

Tharoor appealed to the Indian diaspora for their backing, stating, "We invite you to stand with us in solidarity and determination against any future acts of terrorism. This visit aims to celebrate your fifty-ninth Independence Day, and I appreciate your presence here today."

India's Firm Anti-Terrorism Message

The delegation, led by Tharoor, aims to convey India's unified stance on combating terrorism globally. They will inform international partners about India's response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack and its ongoing battle against cross-border terrorism.

Operation Sindoor, initiated on May 7, was a decisive military action in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals. The Indian Armed Forces targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the elimination of over 100 terrorists linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
